It was felt in 1975 that community physiotherapists could work alongside district nurses. They could also work in schools to treat such problems as posture and asthma, in factories to instruct in body mechanics and self care, in nursing homes to teach personnel about good patient management, in homes as advisory on equipment and patient activity, in health centres to conduct both direct care and preventative programmes. Delegates from both schools said this was already done.[1]. The Society was asked in 1986 to study a report of a Southampton University course and decide its relevance to the NZ scene.[2]
Fiona Murdoch, Gail de Boer, and Nell Dawson presented at the Community Physiotherapists’ Conference held in Hamilton 12-14- March 1997. Interest was expressed in the work of the Society and the majority of participants were members.
